There’s rattling at the door, maybe the sound of glass breaking. Your motion-sensing surveillance system is screaming alerts at your phone. The door finally gives way, the window is breached. Your alarm system goes off, but you’re already popping open that biometric safe next to your bed. Grabbing that well-maintained 9mm pistol, you’re directing your significant other to grab their own sidearm and protect any vulnerable people, i.e. elderly relatives, children, in the home. Your job is to assess and engage the invaders. Thankfully you have some knowledge of their whereabouts already. They’re looking for an easy score in your living room. As you round the corner, one is helping themselves to your PS5, while the other is standing watch, gun in hand…

Wayne LaPierre Is Gone From The NRA - Now What?https://regularguyguns.com/2024/01/25/Wayne-LaPierre-Is-Gone-From-The-NRA-Now-What/2024-01-26T03:46:07.000Z2024-01-26T04:03:33.950Z

On January 5th, 2024, the National Rifle Association of America aka the NRA announced the impending retirement of Executive Vice President (EVP) and CEO Wayne LaPierre. Serving in the position since 1991, LaPierre oversaw the NRA during some of it’s most tumultuous years. From the years of the thankfully-repealed “Assault Weapons” Ban, to the post-Bruen landscape of today, “WLP” proved to be a lightning rod for the anti-2A forces, the mainstream media, and Second Amendment supporters alike. Between this and Texas, 2024 is already lit.

Conveniently enough, LaPierre chose to retire just before his civil trial to combat accusations of fraud was to begin. Filed by anti-2A New York State Attorney General Letita James (the NRA was incorporated in New York State at the time), the suit alleges that LaPierre and other NRA top brass misused charitable funds, engaged in fraud, and other financial crimes. While it’s obvious James filed the charges in a political witch-hunt, the accusations will be hard for LaPierre to fight, owing to his extravagant lifestyle (bespoke suits, private jets, the works) and multi-million dollar yearly salary.

The prevailing theory is that LaPierre chose to retire with some dignity, rather than being forced out of the NRA by the courts. Regardless of his motivations, the seat is now vacant, and no doubt being hotly contested behind the scenes on Waples Mill Road…

2024 Will Be Interesting For Second Amendment Radicalshttps://regularguyguns.com/2023/12/30/2024-Will-Be-Interesting-For-Second-Amendment-Radicals/2023-12-31T02:55:56.000Z2024-01-26T04:01:35.425Z

For us Second Amendment Radicals and armed citizens, 2023 was quite the ride. The majority of the country, by landmass, became Constitutional Carry, with even us in the Gunshine State staggering over the finish line (kind of) after over a decade of concentrated effort and false starts. Ownership numbers continued to rise, especially with the Hamas attack on Israel serving as a stark reminder that large-scale and continuous violence can happen to even a somewhat-developed nation. On the legal side, it appears the decades-long federal ban on 18-21 year olds purchasing handguns will fall, and also the Supreme Court granted cert to Garland vs Cargill, which is a challenge to the bump stock ban. The cert was granted on “abuse of power” grounds rather than Second Amendment grounds, but we’ll take it! If (when) SCOTUS rules correctly, it could severely cripple the ATF and other executive branch rulemaking - and good!

Of course, there were some (hopefully temporary) setbacks. The Biden regime’s pistol brace ruling was put into place, though is currently enjoined until most likely the Supreme Court makes a ruling on it. A similar situation exists for the useless and much-maligned “ghost gun” rule, which seemingly gets enjoined, reversed, and enjoined again every other week. On the state level, Illinois’ “assault weapons” ban goes into effect on January 1st, though most likely it won’t stand for the long term once a sympathetic district Court or the Supreme Court rules that it is in violation of the Second Amendment.

Sadly, on December 27th, 2023, the legendary Gaston Glock passed on at the age of 94. Do a few mag dumps from your GLOCK 19 in tribute.

2023 was certainly a rollercoaster. However, 2024 is going to be lit, as the kids would say…

You may not have the skill yet to out-shoot that stock trigger, but you’ll get an itch to take it out and install a Geissele (the big brother to ALG, makers of the EMR V3X Handguard) Single-Stage Precision Flat Bow trigger. That mil-spec stock that wouldn’t look out of place on a GWOT-era recruiting poster? Gone - you’ll acquire something a little more ergonomic such as an Adaptive Tactical EX Performance Stock or a B5 SOPMOD Stock.

Eventually you start replacing major groups of hardware on your AR-15 rifle. Yes, guns and ammunition are cool. And fun to learn about. However, you could have an ammo dump bigger than the reserves at LCAAP and still be boned if you don’t have a supporting infrastructure. In a world gone upside down, or even more mundane situations, the air itself can become a hazard. Spurred on by the unexpected contact from the team at MIRA, my own interest in the fascinating world of gas masks and PPE was amplified.

Whether it’s a GLOCK 19 pistol or some variant of an AR-pattern rifle, it is estimated that over 120 million people currently possess one firearm, at the minimum. For a good reason, concrete data of actual ownership is hard to come by, but estimates can be gleaned from NICS background check inquiries, manufacturer-supplied data, and gun shop statistics. Regardless of the sources, a generally accepted estimate, even by the government, is that somewhere north of 420 million firearms are in private hands in the United States. To be certain, the real figure is much, much higher.

However, it’s one thing to possess a firearm. To actually be “armed” is technically quite another thing entirely….

Knowing full well this would brand them as war criminals in the eyes of the regime, they nonetheless made their declaration, and truly sparked the American Revolution. For themselves and those allied with them, there was no going back. The Crown would, after some political theatre, execute them for being traitors if they were ever captured. To say that the Founding Fathers and their supporters were fighting for their lives is putting it mildly. Failure meant certain death. Success meant establishing the nation, for better or for worse, that we all enjoy today.

And the primary reason they were able to secure that freedom is because they understood the importance of the inherent and absolute right to keep and bear arms as acknowledged by the Second Amendment…

On July 1st, 2023, anyone within the borders of the State will be able to carry a concealed handgun in public without having to first obtain a Florida Concealed Weapons or Firearms License aka the CWFL.

Representing an admittedly watered-down version of one of Governor (and now Presidential candidate) Ron DeSantis’ wish-list items, the Florida permitless carry law promises to kick the Gunshine State out of a decades-long doldrum with regards to firearms rights. While the vast majority of Second Amendment Radicals and armed citizens in Florida see this as welcome news, there’s a small amount of Quisling-esque behavior emanating from the community, most notably from some firearms instructors…

As of this writing, the Florida House has passed the permitless carry bill. We now wait for the Florida Senate. Of course, since Florida was and may still be an electoral battleground state, the usual histrionics from the harridans has ensued. You do know that funky metallic thing around your AR-15’s barrel can have things like lights, lasers, and bipods attached to it, right?

For years, the only real option for attaching accessories to your AR-pattern rifle, or many other firearm types, was the Picatinny rail. Known as MIL-STD-1913 in military circles, this familiar rail system was a standardized descendant of the civilian Weaver rail system. The Picatinny rail was made “official” in the 1990s with the introduction of the M4A1 carbine. Citizen AR-15s, especially after the 2004 AWB sunset, soon followed suit with Picatinny rails. Despite it’s ease of use, complaints remained about the weight of the handguards, and the ergonomics.

Enter Magpul’s M-LOK and Keymod…

Soon, people in New York and other places will be able to carry this easily.">

On the morning of June 23rd, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States finally issued it’s opinion on the case of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association vs Bruen. At stake was the fundamental right to keep and bear arms as acknowledged by the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution, and whether it applied outside of the home or not. In a 6-3 vote, the Court has ruled that the right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental right, and must be treated as such by the government. In an extraordinarily well-drafted opinion, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote that the right to keep and bear arms is not a “second-class right subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees…”

To say this is titanic and beneficial to us is an understatement. And in a positive way, the nuance is in the details. So, what does the NYSRPA v Bruen decision mean for us Second Amendment Radicals?

The whole idea was to use some sort of authentication mechanism to deny unauthorized users use of the firearm. From the hideously flawed and compromised Armatix IP1, to the current snake oil salesmen at Lodestar, each attempt has been clunky, unworkable, and not even worthy of being called a “beta” product. Of course, the media dutifully falls in line and every few years, they find some new “entrepreneur” or tech bro “who is into guns” that has come up with a smart gun solution that supposedly works. Coupled with a few stories of (legitimate) tragedies resulting from improperly secured firearms, and the pieces turned out are worthy of a gold medal from Minitrue.

Sure, the idea sounds good on paper, even to us Second Amendment Radicals. People from all walks of life have the right to keep and bear any arms they deem fit for the task at hand. If 2022 deals you a bad hand and it’s machine pistol time, you have every right to do that GLOCK conversion, in my eyes. I’m also open to dialog from people who may hold the Second Amendment sacrosanct, but may have views on other issues that potentially even contradict the underlying spirit of the Second Amendment - i.e. if someone’s a gun nut like me but supports government-funded healthcare, which I don’t. You get a seat at the table. We agree on guns, so that issue is out of the way - so we can bitch about healthcare…

Where I kind of put a full stop though is on people who own guns, but support gun control - especially the influential so-called “elites” in our society. The “Guns For Me But Not For Thee” crowd.

Who amongst us would say no to a Knight’s Armament Company SR-16, complete with a KAC suppressor and all the usual refinements? None of us would turn a fine firearm like that, whether it was given to us, or if we paid for it outright. Who amongst us would say no to a proper set of NODS? Nobody, of course. Who would turn down a ZEV-customized GLOCK pistol? I sure wouldn’t.

Quality gear in the firearms world has it’s place. Dependable and “five-nines” reliable, Second Amendment Radicals, armed citizens, and professional users alike seek out top-tier gear as if their lives depended on it. Because our lives do. However, there’s what looks good on paper, and what one’s bank account says. So, for those of us paying for things ourselves, we make some compromises. A standard GLOCK pistol, maintained properly, is very reliable, and is a quite acceptable option for defensive purposes.

But, if you observe the torrent of trash-talking on the interwebs, one would think than anything less than a KAC rifle or a ZEV GLOCK is eminently useless.

It’s what I call…Gucci Gatekeeping…

But, before we touch on that, astute readers will notice a post has vanished from the RGG continuum. Now, I try my damndest to bring relevant firearm-related info to my small readership, but sometimes adjustments have to be made. The prior post concerned the crossover of domestic violence and Second Amendment issues. Upon publishing, some extraordinarily informative and relevant information was provided to me, necessitating a complete rework of the article. Easier to blow it away and start over rather than edit and move pieces around. Expect the rework in the next iteration or two.

But anyways, let’s dive into some hot takes on some issues of relevance to us Second Amendment Radicals…

Thus far, the Sunshine State has been spared of anything remotely catastrophic, but other named storms have made landfall elsewhere, causing damage. As a major storm approaches, the topic of evacuating invariably comes up. Of course, for us Second Amendment Radicals and armed citizens, the challenges are a bit different, and truth be told, the question of “How To Evacuate With Your Guns?” comes up…

The vast majority of conduct ourselves peaceably and with good intent. We don’t run around murdering people because we find murder to be abhorrent - we’re not set up for that. The fact that there’s a law against murder doesn’t really factor into that line of thought. However, in a vast world of possible outcomes, there exists evil people who do bad things regardless of the existence of a law. In other words - shit happens. As much as we have a fire extinguisher since the fire department takes time to respond, we should always carry a gun since we don’t live in a perfect world…

One of the first things a qualified firearms instructor should teach a new shooter is to aim center mass. For experienced Second Amendment Radicals, armed citizens, and professional shooters of all stripes, this concept is pretty much dogma. However, new shooters are often not given a detailed explanation as to why aiming center mass is important.

In this case, accepting the received wisdom after you pick up that shiny new pistol or rifle is fine, but as active participants in a (hopefully) functional Constitutional Republic, we should make it a habit of questioning things, even if it seems to make sense at first listen. Plus, it makes you a better shooter and able to answer the question…

Why do we aim and shoot center mass?

As of late, SIG Sauer is taking thinks to Loki-levels of variation with their P365 series of subcompact 9mm pistols. Starting with the P365, the platform now includes the P365XL, the P365X, and the P365 SAS. Out of all the variants, the most unique is the P365 SAS.

No, the SAS acronym isn’t a homage to everyone’s favorite batch of doorkickers from Hereford. In this case it stands for “SIG Anti-Snag System”. In this case, everything about the weapon has been modified to present the slimmest profile possible. There’s no takedown lever (more on that later), the slide stop is a little nub, and the sight is a flush-mounted FT Bullseye sight from Meprolight.

So, how did it run? However, even though we’ve been down this road before in a practical sense, I still think everyone should have at least one gun chambered in that all-American caliber, .45 ACP…

Which is sad.">

Ah the National Firearms Act of 1934, aka the NFA. An 87-year old piece of legislation that represents the first major federal gun control law in the history of the United States. Under the purview of the Act are the fun things in life, such as machine guns, suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, things like grenades, and a vague class of firearms called “Any Other Weapons” aka AOWs. Pursuant to the tenets of the Act, those items are taxed to the tune of $200 each (a steep fee in 1934), and must be placed on the notorious National Firearms Registry and Transfer Record, aka the NFRTR.

For most of it’s history, the NFA operated under the radar of all but the most thorough gun control fetishists, as it only dealt with costly items that were the provenance of serious firearms collectors. Business in that sector was low, and the gun controllers didn’t give revising the NFA much of a priority.

Until now…

The trope of a gun and a glass or bottle of whiskey (and maybe a cigar) crops up on the social channels quite often as well.

Sure, firearms ownership, and to an extent, alcohol are synonymous with the rebel spirit of (most) of our nation. A perfect storm of a federal election year, the Kong Flu, civil unrest, and ammo manufacturers hesitant to invest in production upgrades lest they get bit by a sequel to the Trump Slump (where gun manufacturers invested heavily in production leading up to Trump’s election in 2016, only to have the bottom fall out as fears of gun control temporarily subsided), the market for anything firearm related, especially ammunition, is tight. People are hesitant to train due to cost and/or depleting their reserves - however, train we must. Interacting With Law Enforcement...https://regularguyguns.com/2016/07/10/interacting-with-law-enforcement/2016-07-11T00:19:13.000Z2021-05-12T02:07:26.717Z

One of the benefits of living in most of the states in this country is that the government (grudgingly it seems) acknowledges our pre-existing human right to keep and bear arms in this country. Whether it’s concealed carry or open carry, the acknowledgement of that right makes our nation truly unique. However, in light of recent events, I feel a need to discuss how us regular guys and girls should act while under arms, when approached or approaching law enforcement…

To the uninitiated, a rifle magazine might seem like a trivial thing. A boxy curved affair that holds 30 (or more…or less) cartridges, and it probably shipped with your AR-pattern rifle. Most likely it’s a PMAG by Magpul, or in some cases, it’s an aluminum affair termed a “USGI” magazine. These days, it is most likely made of poylmer. Magpul dominates the market, but several new players have entered in the past few years, including Daniel Defense…

Body armor suffers from a bit of an issue in the civilian world. Amongst gun guys and girls, they see it as an expensive luxury, and non-gun-owning civilians wonder just what it is that you are up to if you own or wish to own it. Of course, other peoples’ opinions have never stopped me from purchasing an item, so I took the dip and ventured into the world of body armor…
