Merry Christmas From Regular Guy Guns

It wouldn't be Christmas without Jack.

Just wanted to take a moment to wish my readers and followers a Merry Christmas. I hope there’s something gun-shaped or gun-related under the tree this year for you. Lord knows we all deserve it after a crazed 2020. Oddly enough, our advocacy and pushback squeezed us all in a last-minute Christmas gift yesterday…

The ATF Withdraws Their Pistol Brace “Guidance”

As we went over on this very blog a scant two days ago, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) issued a proposal for guidance on the criteria for pistol-braced firearms. In a nutshell, the document amounted to a bizarre and convoluted procedure which amounted to “We know an SBR vs a pistol-braced gun when we see one…”

Like all proposed changes to federal regulatory schemes, the document was opened up to commentary by the public at large. And comment we did. By late yesterday, there were in excess of 50,000 comments on the proposed regulatory change. The industry itself was taking action, and Second Amendment advocacy organizations like the Firearms Policy Coalition, the NRA, and the Second Amendment Foundation took to the wires, so to speak, to push for action.

In addition, Representative Richard Hudson of North Carolina’s 8th District and 89 other representatives petitioned the ATF to rescind it’s proposal.

Finally, on the evening of December 23rd, the ATF quietly issued a document, announcing that their pistol brace proposal was being withdrawn.

Our action worked. By standing up and shouting en masse that we weren’t going to stand for this, the government backed down.

As they say - soap box, ballot box, jury box, ammo box. Apply in that order. We applied the soap box, and were able to peaceably push back the matter, which is the preferred solution.

They’ll Be Back

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. The government, though cowed, will be looking for alternate angles of attack on our rights. Whether legislative, or via executive fiat (regardless of whom is President!), the Second Amendment is always going to be under attack. We can’t get complacent. They may not attack pistol braces again. The next attack could be on 80 percent builds. It could be on ammo. It could be a convoluted twist to regard semi-automatic ARs and AKs as machine guns. We must be on guard. In a few weeks, in some way, shape, or form, the deck of cards that begets government will be shuffled somehow, and regardless of the shuffling, there’s always going to be a threat. The government didn’t give up, it retreated. They’re readying something else.

This is one fight in a continuing series of fights. As SB Tactical says, “Don’t Get Complacent!”

Enjoy The Victory

Nonetheless, enjoying the victory is a must. It’s a great morale booster, and we need it, especially after a crazy 2020.

From us (me) at Regular Guy Guns, I hope everyone out there has a Merry Christmas, or whatever holiday you may celebrate.
